The Turnbull government has called on Labor senator Sam Dastyari to quit parliament altogether over his connections to a wealthy Chinese political donor. Senator Dastyari has quit his role as deputy opposition Senate whip, after being asked to do so by Opposition Leader Bill Shorten. New questions have arisen over the extent of the influence of a Chinese Communist Party-linked donor over Senator Dastyari, after a new audio recording emerged of him contradicting official Labor policy on the South China Sea.
