Miami staged the moment of tennis history, as Serbian continued his domination and captured record 28th Masters title in career. Also, Novak became all-time leader in prize money, overtaking Roger Federer with $US 98.200.000
Top seed Novak Djokovic continued his domination of men's tennis with a 6-3 6-3 win over Japan's Kei Nishikori in the Miami Open final in Florida on Sunday.
Djokovic said his first Miami win in 2007 paved the way for a career that now includes 63 ATP titles. It was his fourth consecutive Miami championship, and a record 28th overall in the Masters 1000, a series of nine tournaments considered the most prestigious other than the four grand slams.
"It gave me a lot of confidence, a lot of self belief that I can finally win these big tournaments, finally beat the top players. Every year I come back to this tournament I get goose bumps from those days. I was still 19 years old and making my way to the top," he said in a courtside interview."
Djokovic collected $1,028,300 on Sunday, becoming the sport's all-time leading money-winner with career earnings approaching $100 million. At the moment he is on $US 98.220.000 and that took him past Roger Federer ($US97.9 million) for the first time.
