Jelena Jankvic, Press 16. January Former semifinalist and perennial crowd favourite Jelena Jankovic has reversed last years second round defeat to German Laura Siegemund, edging out the No.26 seed in a highly entertaining and see-sawing battle out on Court 8.
"It was a tough match and Im very happy and thrilled that I was able to come out as a winner today", Jankovic, who has not played competitively for nearly three months after injury and illness said.
"She fights hard. Its not over until its over with her, but I knew that and I fought hard too."
"There was a lot of ups and down which is normal from my side because I dont have a lot of matches under my belt at the moment. But it will come."
"Theres a lot of room for improvement and I understand that, I have to be realistic, but there are also some positives I can take and a win is a win. Im happy to get another chance to play."
The 31-year-old former world No.1 will now face German Julia Georges, an earlier three-set winner over Czech Katerina Siniakova.
