Italy wrapped up a thrilling day of Olympic qualifiers across the world, crushing Serbia Sunday night in Bari 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-19) in just an hour and a half to secure the weekend's last available ticket for the men's volleyball tournament of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Italy join Brazil, Russia, USA, Poland and Argentina, who had qualified earlier on Sunday, plus Japan who had a spot by default as hosts in the 12-team lineup of Tokyo 2020. The remaining five Olympic berths will be decided at continental level in January.

Rafael Nadal's chase for a 36th ATP Masters 1000 title will have to wait. The Spaniard pulled out of the Western & Southern Open on Sunday, citing fatigue after winning his record-extending 35th Masters 1000 title earlier at the Coupe Rogers in Montreal.

Serena Williams had to leave the Rogers Cup final in Toronto early Sunday, plagued by back spasms. Her opponent, 19-year-old Bianca Andreescu, took the title in front of a hometown crowd.
