Conservative Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has declared a historic triumph for his Progressive Party in early parliamentary elections, promising to keep the country on its course to join the European Union.
"Serbia will continue on its European path and we'll try to accelerate it," Vucic told supporters gathered in the SNS headquarters on Sunday.
"There is no compromising with that."
Vucic claimed that his party won more than 50 per cent of the votes, after taking 48 per cent two years ago and 158 of the 250 seats in parliament.
Acording to election-monitoring agency, SNS won 49,2 per cent of the votes, with Socialist Party came in second place - 11,6 per cent. It is unclear whether SNS and SPS will renew their alliance.
