Even though the United Nations officially sanctioned 8th of March as International Women's Day in 1975, the history of the day stretches back to 1909. That year, in New York, 15,000 women hit the streets in the first ever Women's Day march fighting for their rights to vote, to fair work and to equal pay. The respect they demanded in 1909, is a battle women around the world continue to this day.
