In majority of Universities across Australia, female students make up at least half of the total number of students enrolled. With relatively even numbers of women undertaking tertiary education, it leaves us with the question what happened after graduation? Why aren't these numbers represented across high ranking industry positions and awards? In Australia,one in five positions within fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are women, but Dr. Kristen Splinter and her team were noticing that within their field the representation of women in leading journals and conferences was dwindling. The Women in Coastal Geoscience and Engineering report has published statistics about gender equality in the field and pinpointed the key factors holding women back across industries.
