In the A-League, competition leaders Sydney F-C slipped up, only managing a 1-1 draw against seventh-placed Central Coast Mariners...and they may well have lost if the Mariners hadn't missed an easy chance at a goal just before half-time.
But, almost perversely, Sydney's lead atop the competition has been extended by one point, to seven points, after second-placed Newcastle lost, at home, to last-placed Wellington Phoenix.
Of more interest to many fans, though, is the interest in Sydney F-C coach Graham Arnold from Football Federation Australia.
Despite reports the job will go to an overseas candidate, Arnold has confirmed he has been contacted by the game's governing body, and that he is a candidate for the position of Socceroos coach.
Arnold insists, though, that the official contact so far has only been procedural.
