Treasury has asked for advice from the public on what should be included in next year's federal budget

Treasury has asked for advice from the public on what should be included in next year's federal budget.

Submissions to the budget, due to be handed down a month early on April 2, will close on the first of February.

It's expected submissions will be made by a wide range of business and community groups, ahead of an election due in May.

The government recently announced that the budget is expected to return to surplus in 2019/2020.
