Australia is to grant visa extensions with a pathway to permanent residency to thousands of Hong Kong citizens living in Australia.
It follows the Chinese government's imposition of new security laws in its territory, perceived by many as increasing restrictions on the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong citizens.
The Federal Government also announced its extradition treaty with the former British colony will be suspended.
