A Tribute to K A Gunasekaran

A prominent Dalit folklorist and theatre personality K.A.Gunasekaran passed away in Puducherry. He was 61.Inspired by Left movements, Gunasekaran started penning small poems and plays. His works were essentially laced with Marxian ideology. He wrote several plays, the popular ones being Sathiya Sothanai (experiments with truth, 1988) and Pavalakkodi Alathu Kudumba valakku (family dispute, 2001). He had published more than two dozen books on folk arts, modern theatre history, and music. The rebellious song Manusangada Naanga Manusangada , wrote by poet Inkulab and powerfully sung by Mr. Gunasekaran became the anthem of the Dalit Movement in the 1990s. He has sung many songs on the theme of caste at innumerable stages. Dr.V. Arasu , Professor & Head, Department of Tamil Literature, University of Madras records the contributions of K A Gunasekaran to the wider Tamil society.
