Tamil music dates back to Sangam literature period and it is well defined from musical notations to mood,” says N Mammathu, a noted Tamil musicologist. Mr Mammathu is into music research for more than 40 years and has written five books, including a dictionary titled, "Thamizhisai Peragaraathi" that has 5,000 Thamizhisai words.
