Asylum seekers legally detained on Customs vessel, High Court rules

The High Court has found the government didn't act illegally when it detained 157 Tamil asylum seekers aboard a Customs boat for almost a month. The case was mounted by a man named only as C-P-C-F who was aboard the vessel which departed India and was intercepted off Christmas Island on June 29 last year. The group, which included women and children, was subsequently sent to Nauru. Congress spokesman Dr Vala Vignerswaran spoken to Maheswaran Prabaharan regarding the verdict.
