Australia and India signed a major interim free-trade deal hailed as a significant step in diversifying export markets. The new agreement will strip tariffs off 96 per cent of Indian imports into Australia and 85 per cent of Australian exports, rising to 91 per cent over the next decade. Australian minister for trade, tourism, and investment Dan Tehan and Indian commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal signed the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) in a virtual ceremony in the presence of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Indian counterpart Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
