Shyamla Eswaran is the recipient of the Australian National Maritime Museum Arts & Culture Medal this year. Shyamla is a Performing Artist, Choreographer & Educator who is dedicated to creating social change through the arts. Over the past two years, Shyamla has delivered 53 school workshops and 285 preschool BollyKids shows across the country, reaching more than 6,000 Australian children. BollyKids promotes multiculturalism, diversity, inclusivity and belonging through a show that brings the sights, smells and sounds of India to students in NSW. Shyamla talks to Kulasegaram Sanchayan about the award, her background, and her passion.
