The number of coronavirus cases worldwide has passed one million, with Italy, Spain and the United States still among the worst-hit countries.


Ahead of this sad global milestone, the European Commission boss has apologised to Italy for failing to help the country deal with COVID-19.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced councils around the country to cancel their citizenship ceremonies until further notice.

It's left many people unable to make their formal pledge of allegiance or receive their certificate of citizenship.

And concern is growing, with the Department of Home Affairs yet to confirm how it intends to formally confer new citizenship.
