Do Sri Lankan Tamil refugees have freedom to work in India?

Every refugee who fled Sri Lanka or born and brought up in refugee camps in Tamil Nadu face difficulties with working; their movement and work right is highly restricted by the government’s policy of surveillance of refugees. This policy is forcing them to get into blue colour job and remain as coolies for ever.


Pappama is one among 50,000 plantation Tamils who was forced to migrate from Sinhalese majority Southern region to Tamil majority Northern Sri Lanka during ethnic violence in 1977. The Indian origin plantation Tamils who were deprived of Sri Lankan citizenship after the British gave independence to the island nation and faced with stateless situation. They were also caught up in ethnic violence. Pappama shares her story.
