National Reconciliation Week is a time to celebrate and build respect between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians. It also marks significant dates in the history of Indigenous Australians: the 1967 referendum and 1992 Mabo decision. This year’s theme is ‘Grounded in Truth, Walk Together with Courage.’ National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. As part of Reconciliation Week 2019 Kulasegaram Sanchayan brings some tips from Danny Teece-Johnson, our colleague from NITV, to avoid putting your foot in your mouth when chatting with Aboriginal people.
