When around 30,000 people who had been protesting for a 100 days wanted to meet the government official to register their grievances, the police tried to stop them from marching towards the office. Thousands of women and children were present. According to eye-witnesses, the police fired at them above the waist. A 17-year-old girl, an active protester was shot dead. 70-year-old priest, Fr Leo Jeyaseelan, was critically wounded and remains hospitalised.
