The Federal Court found on Friday, that two-year-old Tharunicaa was not "afforded procedural fairness" after the government considered lifting the bar for the family to apply for protection visas. Parents Priya and Nades Murugappan, and their two Australian-born children Kopika, and Tharunicaa, have been detained on Christmas Island since August last year.


In this telephone interview with Kulasegaram Sanchayan, Priya shares her gratification on the verdict and the family’s plight in Christmas Island; and little Kopika shares her frustrations of being away from her friends.
