Imayam, a prominent novelist, who calls himself a writer of the Dravidian movement and captures the stark realities of the caste system has been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for 2020 for his novel Sellatha Panam.
A schoolteacher by profession, Imayam has written six novels, six short-story collections and a novella in the past 28 years since he published his first novel, Koveru Kazhuthaikal. Iamayam (real name V. Annamalai) talks to Kulasegaram Sanchayan about his career and his writing style.
