Interview with T.M. Krishna – Part 3

Source: SBS Tamil
T.M. Krishna (Thodur Madabusi Krishna) is a popular Carnatic music vocalist in India. His musicality eludes standard analyses. Uncommon in his rendition of music and original in his interpretation of it, Krishna is at once strong and subtle, manifestly traditional and stunningly innovative. Krishna’s pen is sharp and words are blunt. As a public intellectual, Krishna speaks and writes about issues affecting the human condition and about matters cultural. Krishna has started and is involved in many organizations whose work is spread across the whole spectrum of music and culture. As a recipient of prestigious Roman Magsaysay award, TM Krishna is never one to shy away from controversy. His outspoken emphasis on the caste equations of Carnatic classical music, and the larger question of cultures, often attracts both shining praise and vociferous denouncements. T.M. Krishna spoke to RaySel at SBS studio during his visit to Australia.
