Kana Kanden – Janabai

Source: Gayatri
Gayatri Bharat, an acclaimed singer from South India, presents “Kana Kanden”, a 10 parts series on the stories of nine Indian mystic women. The series bring to light the contributions of these women saints in shaping the modern world. These women through their devotion transcended material reality and claimed their own spiritual space in a patriarchal society. They accomplished the impossible in their songs, by making it an instrument of rebellion through a perfect blend of asceticism and aesthetics. They dissolved in divinity, seeking their beloved through their soulful songs and thoughtful verses. True mystics were these women, who seemed to have risen above the problems of their birth to sing the immersion in the divine. The “raw” passions of these mystic women will come alive through Gayatri’s presentation of stories, verses and songs. Part 8. Janabai was a Marathi religious poet in the Hindu tradition in India, who was born likely in 13th century. Janabai’s compositions were preserved along with those of Namdev.
