Meaning and Significance of the "Dot" on forehead

Source: SBS
A Dot-Pottu ( meaning "point, drop, dot or small particle") is a red dot worn on the center of the forehead, commonly by Hindu and Jain women. Traditionally, the area between the eyebrows (where the pottu is placed) is said to be the sixth chakra, ajna, the seat of "concealed wisdom". The pottu is said to retain energy and strengthen concentration. This is a special feature on Pottu.
