Our Australia: Barry James Marshall

Professor Barry James Marshall is an Australian doctor who won the 2015 Nobel Prize in Medicine. He proved that stress wasn't responsible for causing stomach ulcers in millions of people worldwide, as was commonly believed, but instead, it was caused by a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori. The scientific community didn't believe and to prove the finding, Dr Barry Marshall experimented on himself. It was a historic event in the field of medicine that not only detected the helicopterator pylori, responsible for the stomach ulcer but also detected the stomach ulceration. Today, stomach ulcers are treated with simple antibiotics. He shared this prize with Dr J Robin Warren.
