Australian Prof Brian Paul Schmidt and his team won the physics Nobel prize in the year 2011. It was discovered that the expansion of the universe is speeding up rather than slowing down, as scientists had previously thought. With the measurable movements of distant supernovae it was found that, these were accelerating as they moved away from the centre of the Big Bang. Before this, it was believed that the pulling force of gravity would slow their trajectory, as well as the universe's growth. Brain said, “It was being pushed, which means that gravity is working differently and the dark energy may be pulling the universe apart. Remadevi Dhanasekar explains about Brian Paul Schmidt’s contribution and achievements in “Namma Australia”.
