This is NAIDOC week - NAIDOC is the acronym for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. NAIDOC can be traced to the early 1920s when organisations mobilised resources to build awareness of Australian Aboriginal people and to improve their lives. Renuka presents a special feature on NAIDOC with the views of Dr.Dhamu Pongiyannan, T.Gowriharan & Kayalvizhi Rajasekaran. Dr Dhamu Pongiyannan runs the Centre for Applied Academics in Humanities and Social Sciences (CAAHS). He has been researching on Aboriginal issues for more than six years. He worked as a Tutor for Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) and as a counselor in Aboriginal Community Connect in Murry Bridge (Ngarrindjeri Country) in South Australia. He has also worked closely with the Barngarla People in Regional South Australia. T.Gowriharan works as a counselor at Boorndawan William Aboriginal Healing Centre. Kayalvizhi Rajasekaran,Principal Solicitor-is currently pursuing Master of Aboriginal Studies at Uni SA.
