Jallikattu has been practised for thousands of years in Tamil Nadu. But in 2014 the sport was outlawed by the Supreme Court following objections from animal rights activists who say it is cruel. However, political parties and people in Tamil Nadu are urging the central government to intervene to enable the conduct of Jallikattu events in Tamil Nadu by denotifying bulls from the list of performing animals in a notification.Tamil youth in Australia are organising an event in Sydney and Melbourne on Friday (13 Jan) to show their solidarity with the people in Tamil Nadu. Mathan Raj spoke to Raysel on the reasons for organising an event here in Australia.
