When Sri Lanka’s civil war ended in 2009, up to a million people had been displaced and a major refugee exodus triggered. Many tried to come by boat to Australia but as the war had ended their refugee claims were rejected and they were sent back. What happened to the Tamil asylum seekers who weren’t allowed to stay? And what does the return to power of a controversial figure in Sri Lankan politics mean for asylum seekers? That story by Aaron Fernandes in Jaffna, Sri Lanka for SBS News, produced by Praba Maheswaran for SBS Tamil program.
