Australian Senate President calls for greater interaction between Australia and Pakistan parliaments

The High Commissioner for Pakistan in Canberra, Mr. Babar Amin met with the President of the Australian Senate, the Hon. Scott Ryan to discuss parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

President of the Australian Senate has expressed the desire to strengthen Parliamentary relations with Pakistan.

According to the High Commission’s media release, the High Commissioner informed the President of the formulation of Pakistan-Australia Friendship Group in the Senate of Pakistan and recommended strengthening the mechanism for interaction between the two Senates.

Pakistan has invited the Australian Senate President to participate in the Meeting of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA)’ Standing Committee on Political Affairs in Gwadar on during 29th October – 31st October 2018.

Pakistan hosted over seventy delegates from twenty three countries during APA event in 2017.

The Asian Parliamentary Assembly was established in 2006. The first session of the assembly was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1999.

The APA website says the organisation areas of activities include fighting against corruption, globalisation, access to justice in health, combating drug trafficking, friendship and cooperation, poverty reduction and cultural diversity.
