The residents of the Geelong community have come forward to help each other in a display of interfaith harmony after a fire destroyed the local mosque early Wednesday morning.
The burning of the mosque, which was formerly a church, may be linked to a series of such incidents, according to police.
Since October last year, four churches have caught fire and this fresh mosque incident is now considered suspicious as the police continue its investigation.
Meanwhile, the local Christian community has extended their support to the Muslim community by offering them their church to carry out prayers.
The Geelong mosque Imam Shykh Ramzan has not only welcomed the support but also preached harmony and peace among the communities.
“We are a very peaceful community,” he said while taking to SBS Urdu.
“People in Geelong are very friendly and accommodating. We respect each other’s religious values live in a harmonious way.”
