The South Asian nation is again in the top ten countries that have provided skilled migrants to Australia. Under Australia’s Migration Program, in 2019-20, 4,136 Pakistanis were given permanent residency for Australia.
The purpose of the migration program is to attract highly skilled migrants from around the world. The program consists of four streams including, the skill stream, family stream, special eligibility stream, and the child stream.
In the latest the financial year 2019 – 2020, 140,366 places were granted to the permanent residences.
Another stream of visas, Global talent (Independent) was also launched during November 2019 focusing on highly talented individuals with ‘entrepreneurial ideas and cutting-edge skills’ in targeted industries.
The following are the top ten source countries of migrants to Australia in 2019 – 2020.
According to the Department of Home Affair's data, Pakistanis received 2,966 under the skill stream, 1,079 visas under the Family stream, and 91 Child stream visas.
