It was a somewhat incongruous sight on day one in Brisbane: a West Indies legend attending a Test between Australia and Pakistan. Had Sir Garry Sobers, currently on a speaking tour in Australia, stayed at the Gabba a few days more, he would have witnessed Asad Shafiq break a 43-year-old record set by Sobers himself.
Azhar Ali on Asad Shafiq: 'I've always rated him as a very fine player, because batting at No. 6 is never easy.
Social media stromed with messages of facilation and congration on Asad's inning.

10th Test century comes up for @asadshafiq1986, his first one in Australia #AUSvPAK
Shafiq notched his ninth ton at No.6 - eclipsing West Indies great Garfield Soberts' record for most Test hundreds in that position. Smith dipped his hat to Shafiq - then breathed a sigh of relief. Smith had dropped Shafiq on 72 off Starc on Sunday night. "A lot of credit has to go to Pakistan the way they played in that last innings," Smith said. "Asad Shafiq was absolutely outstanding and all of the tail played beautifully around him. "It took a world-class performer in Mitchell Starc to step up and get us that wicket and crack it open for us. "What a game of cricket."
