A group of likeminded and passionate females from the local community took an initiative to start a not-for-profit organisation to support fellow females in all aspects of life.
The group termed as ‘Sister Squad’ started earlier in March this year and has already has attracted a talented pool of 40 volunteers.
They provide services such as personal crisis support, business setup support, refugee aid, elderly support, mental illness and much more.
Mahrukh Khan, the founding member of Sister Squad told SBS Urdu that her mother encouraged her from a very young age to do volunteer work in the community.

“I have been a member of a number of organisations doing volunteer work since I was very young and up until recently I was working with domestic abuse victims at House of Sakinah,” said Khan.
“Generally, there is a concept in the Pakistani community that charity should be sent back home as everyone is in need.
“When I joined the House of Sakinah I realised that a lot of females from Pakistani background were facing issues over here, not just financial help but they had no counselling support.
“This is when I decided to start sister squad, where we meet every month for a therapeutic gathering where our counsellors, psychologists are there to help and support the women from the community.” Khan further added.
