The Australian Medical Association has renewed its calls for G-Ps to raise consultation fees to keep up with the rising costs of running a practice.

The Federal Government denies G-P bulk-billing rates are falling as a result of its Medicare freeze.

Instead, it insists bulk-billing of G-P services is at an all-time high, at 85.1 per cent.

But doctors claim those figures are misleading because they cover a range of Medicare item numbers.
