An international perspective on Indigenous recognition

It's been over eight months since the Turnbull government formally rejected the key recommendation of the Referendum Council to establish a new Indigenous advisory body, saying a constitutionally enshrined Indigenous voice in parliament was neither "desirable" or "capable" of winning acceptance. The decision was described at the time by one Indigenous advocate as a "kick in the guts", and it has left many others asking what options remain for Indigenous recognition. The topic has been discussed by three of the world's preeminent Indigenous rights experts in Canberra last week.
