The Federal Government has announced an inquiry into the deepening over-representation of Indigenous Australians in the country's prison system.


Attorney-General George Brandis has described Indigenous incarceration rates as a national tragedy.

The move follows calls for a royal commission into the Northern Territory juvenile-justice system.
