Deadline close for Catalonia response on independence

The deadline is nearing for the regional government of Catalonia to clarify to the Spanish government whether or not it has declared independence.

The deadline from the Spanish government follows a banned independence referendum in the region that received strong support for Catalonia to break away from Spain.

As tensions mount, the Spanish government has reiterated the need for Catalonia to stay in line with the country's constitution or risk losing its regional powers.
