American President Donald Trump has lashed out at leaders in the hurricane-hit US territory of Puerto Rico)after they criticised the administration's response to the disaster.

The island has been left with widespread devastation since the category four system struck a week ago, killing 16 people.

With many of the 3.5 million people living in Puerto Rico struggling without shelter, food or water; Mayor of San Juan (san wan)issued an emotional appeal for assistance.

That was met with an assurance from the White House press secretary that America's response was timely and that this was in fact, a "good news story".

That statement prompted another outburst by Mayor Cruz.
