Preschool teachers in Victoria are being encouraged to break down gender stereotypes in the classroom with fewer stories about princes and princesses.


The teachers guide does say fairytales should be discouraged, gender-specific toys audited and gender-based role play avoided.

Emily Maguire, of Victoria's Domestic Violence Resource Centre, says fairytales are, indeed, one of the last bastions of inequality.
