A resettlement group in Melbourne has brought together over 40 community representatives to work on new strategies to reduce domestic violence in refugee and migrant groups.

Research released by migrant and refugee resettlement service provider AMES suggests those cultural differences make anti-violence campaigns geared towards the general population ineffective for new communities.

This group is holding sessions with 42 community leaders over the next three months to devise new strategies for tackling family violence.

The program is looking to translate not just language, but concepts such as gender equality, across the cultural divide.
