Early childhood educators have staged protests in Melbourne this week, and are promising more walk-outs in the future, as they demand a rise on a wage they call disgraceful.

In the past two years, the pay gap between men and women has decreased from 18.5 per cent in 2014 to 16.2 per cent this year, but it continues to fluctuate.

Currently the average the full-time weekly pay packet for women is still $260 less than their male counterparts.

Minister for Women Michaelia Cash wants to address that by getting more females into executive and leadership roles, including government ministries.
