Tran Thi Thuy, born in 1971, is a member of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Congregation, accused of "overthrowing government" under Article 79 of the Vietnam Penal Code and sentenced to eight years in prison and five years of house arrest.

Knowing that her family's land was seized by the state, she and other petitioners petitioned her and 6 other people to be severely sentenced and imprisoned very harshly in Binh Duong province.

Tran Thanh Tuan, Thuy's younger brother, has struggled with the petitioners who have been beaten for the disease and said Thuy's current health condition is not receiving proper medical care.
