One mental-health service has now created an online resource to help them deal with the barrage of bad news at their fingertips.
The most recent stress-and-wellbeing survey found teenagers spent on average of two hours and 40 minutes a day on social media.
More than half logged on to social media five or more times a day.
And 25 per cent were constantly connected.
Reach Out has developed an online resource, backed by Twitter, to try to help young people deal with distressing content.
It says, sometimes, taking a break from social media can help.
