A new opinion poll in France shows Emmanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen maintaining their lead as frontrunners to narrowly beat other candidates in the first round of the presidential election.

A new opinion poll in France shows Emmanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen maintaining their lead as frontrunners to narrowly beat other candidates in the first round of the presidential election.


23 per cent of those polled for Le Monde newspaper plan to vote for Mr Macron in the first round while Marine Le Pen has 22. 5 per cent.
