It has been 50 years to the day (thur) since ANZAC (AN-zak) soldiers fought in Australia's deadliest battle of the Vietnam War. Eighteen Australians and hundreds of Vietnamese soldiers died in the Battle of Long Tan in 1966.Whereas last-minute negotiations between Australia and Vietnam led to veterans being granted limited access to the Long Tan memorial site in Vietnam, a solemn ceremony has been held in Canberra today to mark the battle of Long Tân and to commemorate Vietnam Veterans Day.
