Tens of thousands of people have gathered in Madrid to join a protest opposing a government plan to ease tension in Spain's semi-autonomous Catalonia region.
The protesters say the proposed appointment of an intermediary for talks with Catalans who want independence from Spain amounts to treason.
Organisers are also calling for Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to step down.
