Merkel fights for multilateralism after Trump UN speech

German chancellor Angela Merkel has warned United States president Donald Trump against "destroying" the United Nations. Her remarks came after Mr Trump used his annual address to the United Nations to reject the ideology of globalism in favour of what he framed as patriotism and independent interests. Politicians and analysts have condemned his comments, stressing what they see as the importance of the organisation in protecting the world from chaos.
