Protection status granted for secret home of elusive night parrot

The home of Australia's most elusive bird now has permanent protection with a secret sanctuary in remote south-west Queensland.

The night parrot was thought extinct until live sightings were confirmed three years ago.

Now its home in a small patch spinifex covered land has been declared a nature reserve.
