After 10 year marriage to a Taiwanese husband, Thanh Nhan now becomes a consultant for President Tsai Ing-wen on immigration issues relating to the Vietnamese community.
Many of the Taiwanese men may be unable to find local wives and look to other places, including Vietnam and mainland China, for brides, while many Vietnamese women are looking for a better life.
"In 1995 there were only 1,476 Vietnamese women married to Taiwanese husbands," said David Wu, director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Saigon. "The number now is more than 60,000."
Ho Thi Thanh Nhan is one of those Vietnamese brides in Taiwan.
